The National Assembly has approved 88 demands for grants worth more than Rs4.38 trillion for the federal budget 2026-27. The approvals cover key ministries and major sectors of the economy.
The session marked a significant step in finalizing the federal fiscal framework. Importantly, the defense budget was passed unanimously without any opposition resistance.
Defense Sector Receives Largest Allocation
Lawmakers approved seven major demands for grants totaling Rs3.06 trillion for defense and defense production.
In addition, over Rs298 billion was approved for the armed forces. Meanwhile, more than Rs109 billion was allocated for defense development expenditures.
No cut motions were submitted by the opposition. As a result, the defense-related allocations passed smoothly and unanimously.
Officials stated that defense remains one of the largest components of the national budget. It continues to receive priority funding due to security and operational requirements.
Major Sector-Wise Budget Approvals
The National Assembly also approved large allocations across multiple ministries.
Communications received Rs125.72 billion. Similarly, education was allocated over Rs192.7 billion.
Water resources were granted more than Rs107.32 billion to support infrastructure and water management projects.
Other approved allocations include Rs35.38 billion for the Cabinet Secretariat and Rs68.17 billion for foreign affairs.
Health services were allocated Rs53.28 billion. Meanwhile, information technology received Rs42.7 billion.
The planning division secured Rs37.21 billion. Industry and production were allocated Rs29.53 billion.
These allocations reflect broad-based government spending priorities across governance, infrastructure, and development sectors.
Funding for Key Ministries and Institutions
The House also approved several additional ministry-wise grants.
Information and broadcasting received Rs27.57 billion. Commerce was allocated Rs27.99 billion.
Law and justice received Rs24.91 billion, while housing and works got Rs22.31 billion.
Science and technology was allocated Rs19.54 billion. Economic affairs received Rs15.01 billion.
Railways were granted Rs111.13 billion. This allocation supports transport infrastructure and operational requirements.
Other approved grants include:
- Rs5.02 billion for inter-provincial coordination
- Rs4.12 billion for maritime affairs
- Rs3.04 billion for national heritage and culture
- Rs3.18 billion for Kashmir affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan
- Rs3.73 billion for overseas Pakistanis
- Rs2.33 billion for human rights
- Rs2.4 billion for religious affairs
- Rs1.20 billion for parliamentary affairs
Parliamentary Institutions and Administrative Spending
The National Assembly also approved internal budgetary allocations for parliamentary bodies.
Rs9.03 billion was approved for National Assembly expenditures. Additionally, Rs3.21 billion was allocated for the Senate of Pakistan.
These funds ensure smooth functioning of legislative and administrative operations.
Completion of Major Budget Approval Stage
With the approval of all 88 demands for grants, the federal government has secured parliamentary authorization for releasing funds across ministries and divisions.
This step completes a major phase of the budget approval process. It enables the government to implement financial plans for the upcoming fiscal year.
Officials say the approved budget reflects continuity in governance and structured allocation of resources across essential sectors.
The passage of these grants also strengthens financial planning for national development, infrastructure expansion, and public service delivery in FY2026-27.
