NEW JERSEY: Madonna, Shakira, and K-pop sensation BTS will headline the first-ever halftime show during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, FIFA announced on Thursday.
The historic entertainment event will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium during the tournament final. FIFA also confirmed that Chris Martin will curate and oversee the halftime production.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino described the event as a special moment uniting football, music, and global charitable efforts focused on childrenโs education and development.
According to Infantino, the halftime show will also support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund aimed at improving access to education and football opportunities for children worldwide.
Expanded World Cup to Feature 104 Matches
Meanwhile, the 2026 World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19 and will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The upcoming edition will become the largest World Cup in history, featuring 48 national teams and 104 matches. FIFA expanded the format from the previous 64-match structure and introduced an additional knockout round.
Officials expect millions of fans worldwide to follow both the football tournament and the newly introduced entertainment spectacle.
FIFA Continues Entertainment Expansion Strategy
Last yearโs Club World Cup in North America also included a halftime entertainment show featuring performances from artists including Doja Cat, J Balvin, and Tems.
Analysts believe FIFAโs growing focus on entertainment aims to attract broader global audiences and create a Super Bowl-style experience around major football events.
