Viral Video Raises Questions Over Product Origin
Police in India’s Pune city have launched an investigation after a bedsheet bought from a religious fair was found carrying a “Made in Pakistan” label.
The incident took place in the Chinchwad area of Pimpri-Chinchwad in Maharashtra. A woman had purchased the bedsheet from a stall set up near the Morya Gosavi Temple complex during the Sankashti Chaturthi fair.
According to the woman, the bedsheet looked normal when she bought it. She said there was nothing unusual about the product at the time of purchase. However, after washing it, a label allegedly showing “Made in Pakistan” became visible.
The discovery raised concern over how the product reached a local market in Maharashtra. The woman later posted a video on social media, questioning the presence of the item at a religious fair.
The video quickly went viral and drew public attention. Soon after, police responded by launching an official probe.
Special Police Team Traces Supply Chain
Following the circulation of the video, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police formed a special team to investigate the matter. The team will trace the origin of the bedsheet and examine the supply chain linked to its sale.
Investigators are trying to determine where the product was sourced from and who supplied it to the vendor. They are also checking whether similar items are being sold through a wider network.
Police have also written to the municipal corporation and sought appropriate action if any violations are found during the investigation.
The bedsheet was reportedly bought on Wednesday, when large crowds had gathered at the temple for Sankashti Chaturthi celebrations. The presence of a foreign-origin label at such a public event has increased scrutiny of vendors and suppliers.
Earlier Case Involved Cosmetic Products
The development comes only days after a similar case was reported in Maharashtra’s Sambhajinagar district. In that case, three people were arrested for allegedly selling cosmetic products carrying “Made in Pakistan” labels.
The latest incident has again raised questions about product sourcing, market checks, and the monitoring of goods sold at temporary stalls and public fairs.
Authorities are expected to review the vendor’s purchase records and question people connected to the supply chain. The investigation may also look into whether the item entered the market through legal import channels, third-party distributors, or unauthorized routes.
For now, police have not confirmed any wrongdoing by the woman who bought the bedsheet. The focus remains on identifying the source of the product and checking whether any trade or labeling rules were violated.
The case has gained attention because of the sensitive nature of India-Pakistan trade and public sentiment. Officials are now working to establish facts before taking further legal action.
