Saim Cakmak, identified as a key figure within the PKK terrorist organization in Germany, was apprehended in Istanbul during an operation conducted by Turkish intelligence and security forces.
Following the arrest, Cakmak, alleged to have been actively involved in the group’s overseas operations, was formally presented to the court and subsequently detained, according to security sources on Wednesday.
In a separate development on the same day, Turkish security forces conducted an air operation in the Hakurk region of northern Iraq, resulting in the neutralization of six PKK militants, as announced by the National Defense Ministry. The TRT.world reported this development today.
“The Turkish Armed Forces persist in eliminating terrorist hideouts in northern Iraq,” the ministry stated. “Our anti-terrorism efforts will continue with vigor and determination.”
PKK insurgents frequently seek refuge in northern Iraq, utilizing the region as a base to orchestrate attacks across the border into Turkey.
In four decades, the PKK, designated as a terrorist entity by Turkey, the United States, and the European Union, has been accountable for the loss of over 40,000 lives _ men, women, and children, including infants.
The YPG serves as the Syrian branch of the PKK.
