LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari remarked on Wednesday that Maryam Nawaz has undergone a significant lifestyle change since becoming chief minister, opting for “normal clothes” and preferring simplicity.
“Maryam [Nawaz] wears normal clothes, and her other outfits are old and date back before the [February 8] general elections,” the provincial government spokesperson stated in a TV talk show.
The minister’s comments came as Maryam, who made history as Punjab’s first-ever female CM in February, has shown herself to be a proactive provincial chief executive, garnering more attention than her role as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) senior vice president.
Despite facing criticism from political opponents, Maryam has been accused by some social media users of wearing expensive branded clothes.
In response to the allegations, Bukhari clarified that CM Punjab prefers and mostly wears simple clothes.
“I didn’t say she doesn’t wear branded clothes; she prefers simple clothes now,” the minister noted.
However, Bukhari lamented the unnecessary scrutiny and stressed that CM Maryam doesn’t need anyone’s permission for her choice of clothing.
“It is CM Maryam’s performance that should be discussed,” she emphasized.
CM’s projects are not just paperwork Commenting on various initiatives by the provincial government, the information minister emphasized that none of CM Maryam’s projects are merely paperwork; they will all be completed.
Highlighting the significance of the Punjab government’s “Panic Helpline,” Bukhari clarified that it isn’t limited to women but is meant for all vulnerable sections of society. She added that the app will be linked to the police control system.
Furthermore, Bukhari revealed that breakfast meals will be provided to 500,000 children in South Punjab, with the project set to commence in two months.
