Development work is underway across Lahore’s historic Walled City to improve public facilities and upgrade its urban environment.
Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Bilal Yasin outlined the ongoing projects during an open court session in his constituency.
The initiatives include removing encroachments, shifting electrical wiring underground, restoring parks and developing new parking plazas.
Walled City Projects Focus on Public Facilities
Yasin said the projects aim to improve the appearance of the historic area while making everyday life easier for residents. He also highlighted plans to restore parks and improve building facades across different parts of the old city.
According to the minister, these improvements could enhance public spaces and contribute to a better living environment.
Meanwhile, several parking plazas are expected to become operational next year. Yasin said the facilities could help reduce traffic pressure in the densely populated historic area.
The projects form part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure while preserving Lahore’s distinctive urban character.
Residents Raise Local Issues
During the open court session, residents and representatives from different union councils presented complaints about local problems.
They requested the minister’s intervention in matters involving government departments and public services.
Yasin directed officials to respond to complaints promptly and help residents resolve pending issues.
He stressed the importance of addressing public concerns through better coordination between government departments and local communities.
Housing Support for Low-Income Families
The minister also discussed support for low-income families seeking to construct or repair their homes. He pledged to accelerate the processing of housing loans for eligible residents. The initiative is intended to help families complete essential construction and repair work more quickly.
Meanwhile, officials will continue working on the Walled City’s infrastructure projects, including wiring, parks, parking facilities and encroachment removal.
The planned improvements are expected to reshape several public spaces while easing some of the practical challenges faced by residents and visitors.
