Lahore Traffic Police has intensified its crackdown on helmet violations across the city. Authorities have declared several major roads as no-go zones for motorcyclists without helmets.
The decision follows the department’s first artificial intelligence (AI)-based survey on helmet compliance. Officials said the findings showed strong adherence to safety rules on Lahore’s model roads.
AI Survey Shows High Helmet Compliance
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Abdul Rahim Shirazi said authorities conducted the survey using AI technology. The system worked through Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) cameras installed at 17 major intersections.
During the survey period, 264,112 motorcycles passed through the monitored locations. Of those, 256,473 riders wore helmets, while 7,639 travelled without protective headgear.
The survey found that 97.11% of motorcyclists on Lahore’s model roads complied with helmet regulations. Consequently, officials described the results as encouraging for road safety efforts.
Major Roads Declared No-Go Zones
Shirazi announced that The Mall, Jail Road, Canal Road and Cantt are now no-go zones for helmetless riders. Moreover, authorities will expand the zero-tolerance policy to roads connected with these model corridors.
He said the stricter enforcement aims to improve road safety across Lahore. Furthermore, the campaign seeks to reduce traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries.
According to the CTO, higher helmet usage has reduced severe head injury cases by 40%. Therefore, traffic police plan to continue strict enforcement and encourage riders to follow safety regulations.
