Central District officers arrest alleged mastermind after probe into what police call the yearโs biggest robbery
Karachi Central District Police say they have solved what they describe as the biggest robbery case of the year, arresting the alleged mastermind and recovering Rs2 billion out of the Rs3 billion looted in a high-profile cash van heist in Joharabad.
According to police, the robbery took place on June 12, 2026, within the limits of Joharabad Police Station, when a gang intercepted a cash van transporting bank funds and allegedly made off with Rs3 billion. Investigators initially detained three suspects and, during interrogation, traced the alleged mastermind to Muhammad Ali, also known as โLangra.โ
Police later arrested Ali and recovered a major portion of the stolen cash. Officers also seized a Toyota Vigo pickup and a Pixis car that were allegedly used during the robbery.
Investigation points to insider role in high-value cash van robbery
The case was investigated by a special team formed by DIG West Zone Irfan Baloch under the supervision of SSP Central Dr Muhammad Imran Khan. During the probe, investigators concluded that Wajid, described as a chief crew member of the security companyโs cash van, was allegedly involved in the robbery.
Police say Ali planned the operation and hid the stolen money at two separate residences. The recovery of Rs2 billion marked a major breakthrough in the case, though a substantial amount of cash remains missing.
Gang linked to robberies in multiple cities as hunt for accomplices continues
Investigators believe the gang has more than a dozen members and may be linked to several bank robberies and major theft cases in Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Quetta and Multan. Police said the arrested suspect is originally from Swat and has a history of involvement in serious robbery cases.
Authorities added that several accomplices are still at large and may be hiding with the remaining stolen money. Some of the wanted suspects are believed to be from Parachinar in Kurram district.
Police say raids are underway to arrest the remaining gang members and recover the outstanding amount, while further investigation continues into the network behind the robbery and any possible insider support that helped execute the heist.
