Pakistan Earns Global Recognition for Diplomatic Role
United States Vice President JD Vance has praised Pakistan’s leadership for its role in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran, describing the country’s efforts as significant in advancing regional stability.
Speaking in Switzerland ahead of technical-level negotiations between the United States and Iran, Vance commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their contributions to the peace process.
Standing alongside representatives from Pakistan and Qatar, the US vice president said Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement had been recognized internationally. He expressed hope that the momentum created through mediation efforts would lead to further progress in the coming days.
Vance also described Field Marshal Munir as an outstanding military leader and highlighted the extensive communication he had maintained with Pakistan’s military and political leadership throughout months of regional tensions.
Historic Talks Open New Chapter in US-Iran Relations
The negotiations in Switzerland mark a historic moment, bringing American and Iranian teams together under a structured diplomatic framework.
According to Vance, the talks may not immediately resolve every disagreement between the two countries, but they represent an important breakthrough.
“The technical negotiations will allow us to sit together as teams for the first time in history,” he said.
The US vice president emphasized that Washington remains committed to achieving lasting peace in the Middle East. He added that the United States wants Iran to play a constructive role in promoting regional stability and reducing tensions.
Vance acknowledged that ceasefire arrangements are often complex and difficult to maintain. However, he expressed confidence that diplomatic engagement remains the best path forward.
He also noted that President Donald Trump continues to support efforts aimed at securing a broader regional ceasefire and reducing instability across conflict zones.
Pakistani and Iranian Delegations Hold High-Level Meetings
Before the formal negotiations began, senior US officials met Pakistani mediators, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
The American delegation was led by Vice President JD Vance and included senior envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Later, Iranian officials, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, also held meetings with the Pakistani delegation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the talks as an important opportunity for global peace. He credited diplomatic leadership and international cooperation for creating conditions that made the negotiations possible.
Qatar’s leadership also praised Pakistan’s role in helping bring the parties together.
Observers view the Switzerland talks as a critical step toward reducing regional tensions and strengthening diplomatic engagement between long-standing rivals. The outcome could influence future peace efforts across the Middle East and beyond.
