Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi has appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in supporting recent dialogue between the United States and Iran. He expressed these views during a telephone call with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministry said both sides welcomed the recent understanding between Washington and Tehran. They described it as an important development for regional and global stability. Moreover, the discussion highlighted shared support for diplomacy as a tool to reduce tensions.
Diplomatic Appreciation from Japan
During the call, Motegi praised Pakistan’s constructive and sustained mediation efforts. He stated that Pakistan played a helpful role in facilitating dialogue that contributed to the recent diplomatic breakthrough.
Furthermore, both ministers agreed on the importance of continued engagement. They stressed regular communication and close coordination to strengthen bilateral relations. In addition, they discussed cooperation on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The Foreign Office noted that the conversation reflected a shared commitment to peaceful dialogue. It also underlined the need for ongoing diplomatic channels to manage global tensions effectively.
Regional Developments and Ceasefire Efforts
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced earlier that an understanding had been reached between the United States and Iran. He said a memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed in Switzerland on Friday. However, the exact details of the agreement have not yet been made public.
According to reports, the proposed framework includes a 14-point draft that outlines steps to end hostilities and move toward a final settlement. It also reportedly calls for easing maritime restrictions and reopening key trade routes under agreed conditions.
Additionally, the draft suggests lifting the US naval blockade within 30 days and reopening the Strait of Hormuz under Iranian arrangements. However, no official response has been issued by Israel, which was not part of the negotiations.
Tensions in the region have remained high since earlier military exchanges involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Although a temporary ceasefire was announced in April, talks later stalled due to disagreements over implementation. Consequently, diplomatic efforts have continued to restore stability through negotiations and international mediation.
