Israeli airstrikes hit four apartments before dawn on Thursday, killing at least nine people and injuring 15 others, according to medics. The attacks took place amid ongoing tensions in Gaza despite a US-brokered ceasefire that has failed to stop the violence.
Deadly strikes hit residential buildings
Medics said Israeli planes launched strikes on multiple apartments around the same time. One strike killed five members of a single family, including both parents. Emergency teams rushed to the sites and recovered bodies from the rubble. However, the Israeli military did not immediately comment on the incidents.
Footage from the area showed heavily damaged buildings with burnt furniture and scattered debris. Videos circulating on Palestinian social media also showed residents attempting to rescue bodies from a fire-hit apartment. Reuters said it could not independently verify the footage.
Ceasefire tensions and ongoing conflict
The ceasefire, brokered by US President Donald Trump, has not stopped Israeli attacks in Gaza. As a result, violence has continued even after the agreement. Reports indicate that Israel still controls more than half of the enclave following the conflict that began in October 2023.
Moreover, indirect talks on the next phase of the deal remain stalled. These discussions include militant disarmament and Israeli troop withdrawals. However, both sides remain deadlocked over key conditions.
Israel says its strikes target imminent threats. It also claims humanitarian aid continues to enter Gaza. Meanwhile, Gaza health officials say around 930 Palestinians have been killed since the truce began. They do not separate civilians from combatants in their figures. Israelโs military says four of its soldiers were killed by militants during the same period.
