Civilian Areas and Vehicles Among Targets in Latest Strikes
At least 17 people were killed and 64 others injured on Tuesday as Israeli airstrikes and drone attacks hit multiple locations across Southern Lebanon, despite an existing ceasefire and ongoing US-mediated negotiations between Lebanon and Israel.
According to Lebanonโs Health Ministry, Israeli strikes targeted the towns of Burj Al-Shamali, Abba and Tebnine, killing five people and injuring 48 others. Meanwhile, separate drone attacks struck vehicles and civilian locations in several districts, causing additional casualties.
In one incident, a dentist and his two children lost their lives when a drone targeted their vehicle on the Nabatieh-Khardali road. Elsewhere, two Syrian workers were killed after a drone strike hit a plant nursery in Jebchit.
Furthermore, separate attacks targeted a motorcycle in Toul and a vehicle in Ansar, killing two individuals. Another drone strike near the Harouf-Toul roundabout killed a driver after hitting his car.
Military Tensions Persist Despite Diplomatic Efforts
Israeli warplanes also carried out an airstrike on a Lebanese Civil Defense center located on the Masil road in Kfar Sir, completely destroying the facility. However, authorities had evacuated the center several days earlier, preventing additional casualties.
Meanwhile, attacks in Tyre district killed two people in Shhour and another two in Burj Al-Shamali, where 14 others sustained injuries. Additionally, an airstrike destroyed a house in Tyreโs Al-Hosh neighborhood and damaged nearby homes. Rescue teams recovered two injured residents from the rubble and transferred them to hospital for treatment.
The Lebanese army reported that two soldiers suffered moderate injuries after an Israeli drone strike targeted the Habboush-Deir Al-Zahrani road in Nabatieh.
The latest escalation occurred as Lebanese and Israeli officials participated in a fourth round of US-sponsored talks in Washington aimed at preserving the ceasefire and addressing security concerns.
Despite diplomatic efforts, Israel has continued near-daily airstrikes and military operations since the ceasefire took effect on April 17. According to Lebanese authorities, Israeli attacks since March 2 have killed 3,468 people and injured more than 10,500 others across the country.
