Military remains on alert while officials evaluate Iranโs leadership transition and future security developments
JERUSALEM: Israelโs security establishment is closely monitoring the funeral ceremonies in Tehran for former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with officials assessing the participation of regional leaders and representatives from groups hostile to Israel.
According to Israeli media reports, security officials believe parts of the ceremonies are intended to reinforce the position of Mojtaba Khamenei, who succeeded his father as Iranโs supreme leader. Reports claim Mojtaba Khamenei did not appear publicly during the funeral, while several foreign leaders also sent representatives instead of attending in person.
Israeli officials further assessed that Iran is gradually restoring internet services following recent restrictions, citing economic pressures as a contributing factor. At the same time, they believe Iranian authorities continue to maintain strong control over domestic security and public messaging.
Military maintains operational readiness
Israeli security officials also said Iran is working to rebuild its military capabilities and stabilize its economy despite ongoing international sanctions. They noted that economic challenges continue to place significant pressure on Tehran, although no major improvement has been observed.
Meanwhile, officials expressed concern over ongoing diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran. According to the reports, Israel is not directly involved in the negotiations and remains cautious about any developments that could affect its security interests.
The Israeli military has continued preparing for the possibility of renewed hostilities with Iran. Officials said the Israel Defense Forces regularly review defensive and offensive operational plans while expanding intelligence assessments and evaluating potential targets.
Regional tensions remain elevated
Israeli officials believe recent military operations inflicted substantial damage on Iran but assess that the country’s leadership and military institutions remain operational and continue rebuilding.
One senior official, quoted in the reports, claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei may seek retaliation following his father’s death, while another official alleged that senior military figures are encouraging a firm response.
Officials also warned that any future attack by Hezbollah on Israeli territory would likely trigger military action against targets in Beirut’s southern suburbs. They said such a scenario could once again test Tehran’s response as regional tensions continue to shape the security landscape.
