Islamabad has generated Rs. 349.5 million through the auction of six temporary cattle markets for sacrificial animals, reflecting strong commercial activity ahead of the upcoming Eid season. Officials reported that overall bidding increased significantly compared to last year.
The highest bid went to the Sector I-12 market, which secured Rs. 200.1 million. Meanwhile, the Sangjani site followed with Rs. 62.5 million, while the location near Zia Mosque was auctioned for Rs. 50 million. In addition, the Sultana Foundation site fetched Rs. 25 million, whereas Japan Road and Bhara Kahu sites received Rs. 6.2 million and Rs. 6.1 million respectively.
Furthermore, authorities confirmed that the auction witnessed a 120 percent increase in value compared to the previous year. A total of 104 bidders participated, and officials described the process as transparent and competitive, highlighting strong market interest.
In addition, the administration announced that all cattle markets will operate under a cashless system this year. This step aims to streamline financial transactions, reduce cash handling risks, and improve overall efficiency for traders and buyers.
Moreover, the District Municipal Authority has intensified monitoring across the city to prevent unauthorized setups. Officials stated that enforcement teams are actively ensuring compliance so that only approved markets operate during the festive period.
Consequently, authorities expect the temporary facilities to help manage crowds more effectively. They also aim to maintain hygiene standards and provide an organized environment for citizens purchasing sacrificial animals.
Overall, the initiative reflects efforts to modernize market operations while ensuring safety and smooth arrangements during the Eid season.
