ISLAMABAD: Islamabad is experiencing a severe heatwave as the actual temperature reached 38°C, while the feels-like temperature climbed to 46°C. The intense conditions have brought the capital close to dangerous heat levels and prompted health warnings for residents.
According to the weather forecast, Islamabad remained mostly sunny under an excessive heat alert throughout the day. Moreover, temperatures were expected to stay around 38°C during the afternoon before easing slightly in the evening.
Health Advisory Issued as Extreme Heat Continues
The forecast also indicated no chance of rainfall, with humidity at 44 percent and winds blowing at 10 km/h. These weather conditions can make the heat feel even more intense, particularly for people spending extended periods outdoors.
Authorities warned that children, older adults, outdoor workers, and individuals with existing medical conditions face a higher risk of heat-related illnesses. Therefore, residents should avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water, wear light clothing, and cover their heads when leaving home.
Slight Relief Expected Later This Week
Although temperatures are expected to decline slightly over the next three days, Tuesday’s weather remained severe enough to raise concerns about heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Consequently, officials urged the public to continue following safety precautions until conditions improve.
The significant difference between the actual and feels-like temperatures reflects the impact of humidity and environmental conditions on the human body. As a result, prolonged exposure to the extreme heat could quickly lead to dehydration and other serious health complications if preventive measures are ignored.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates regularly and take extra care while travelling or working outdoors during the ongoing heatwave.
