Iranian force dismisses reported contacts with US officials and accuses Washington of attempting to influence global energy markets
TEHRAN: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has rejected US President Donald Trump’s claim that Washington maintains a backchannel with the organisation and is directly communicating with IRGC officials inside Iran.
The denial came after Trump said the United States had established direct communication with senior figures in the powerful Iranian military organisation.
“We have a backchannel with the IRGC. We are speaking directly with the IRGC officials in Iran,” Trump said, according to remarks circulated by Clash Report.
However, the IRGC strongly denied that any such discussions had taken place and accused the US president of presenting an inaccurate account of contacts between Washington and Tehran.
IRGC Dismisses Claims as ‘Fantasies’
In its response, the IRGC described Trump’s assertions as “fantasies resulting from delusions and nightmares of defeat and desperation in the war.”
The Iranian force offered no indication that its officials had participated in direct negotiations or maintained an unofficial communication channel with the Trump administration.
Furthermore, the statement suggested that Washington was using claims about diplomatic contacts to create an impression that tensions between the United States and Iran could ease.
The exchange comes amid continuing uncertainty surrounding relations between the two countries following months of military confrontation and unsuccessful efforts to establish a durable political settlement.
Tehran Links Trump Remarks to Oil Prices
Meanwhile, the IRGC accused Trump of making the statements partly to influence international energy markets.
According to the Iranian force, Trump is attempting to “temporarily control the price of oil and energy” by suggesting that direct contacts with Tehran are underway.
Consequently, the conflicting statements highlight the deep mistrust surrounding diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.
Neither side provided independent evidence supporting its account of the alleged communications.
The dispute also underscores how developments involving Iran can affect market expectations, particularly amid continuing uncertainty surrounding regional security and global energy supplies.
Iran's IRGC denies any talks with American officials, calling Trump's claims "fantasies resulting from delusions and nightmares of defeat and desperation in the war."
