TEHRAN: A senior official from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy stated that Iran has significantly expanded the operational scope surrounding the Strait of Hormuz under a newly implemented strategic plan.
Mohammad Akbarzadeh, political deputy of the IRGC Navy, said during a televised interview that the operational area connected to the Strait of Hormuz has increased from roughly 20 to 30 miles in previous years to more than 200 to 300 miles under the new framework.
According to Akbarzadeh, the expanded zone now forms what he described as a complete crescent-shaped operational area. He stated that the development demonstrates the continued strength and readiness of Iranโs naval forces despite claims by opponents that the countryโs naval capabilities had weakened.
Furthermore, the IRGC official emphasized that Iranian forces continue monitoring all regional movements with precision and authority. He warned that Iran would not permit violations of its territorial waters or strategic interests.
Akbarzadeh also stressed that Iran views the Strait of Hormuz not merely as a limited geographical passage but as a highly strategic region with broader economic and security significance. He argued that Iran has historically ensured secure energy transit, trade, and maritime movement through the waterway without creating obstacles for international shipping.
Meanwhile, he stated that Iranโs previous policies focused on regional peace, de-escalation, and maritime stability. However, he noted that changing regional conditions have prompted Tehran to implement new strategies regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and ongoing international concerns surrounding maritime security, military deployments, and energy transportation through the critical waterway. Analysts continue monitoring developments closely because the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the worldโs most important oil transit routes.
