TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that Tehran has already secured substantial economic gains through its diplomatic engagement with Washington, pointing to sanctions-related relief, renewed export waivers and investment plans following the latest round of negotiations in Switzerland.
According to remarks reported by Reuters, Araghchi said Iran had obtained several concrete benefits during the diplomatic process, including waivers for oil and petrochemical exports, the lifting of the blockade imposed on the country, and the release of some frozen Iranian assets.
He also said a large-scale reconstruction and development plan had been launched for Iran, suggesting that the talks have already produced economic outcomes even before a final settlement is reached between the two sides.
Tehran points to early gains from diplomacy with Washington
Araghchiโs comments came shortly after mediators Qatar and Pakistan issued a joint statement describing the latest negotiations as having produced โencouraging progress.โ The mediators said the talks had also resulted in a roadmap aimed at securing a final agreement within 60 days.
The remarks are likely to strengthen Tehranโs argument at home that diplomacy with the United States has delivered tangible economic relief, even as major disputes remain unresolved over Iranโs nuclear programme, sanctions enforcement and regional security issues.
Mediators announce roadmap toward final agreement
Pakistan and Qatar, which have played key roles in facilitating the talks, said the negotiating process had now moved into a more structured phase, with both sides working toward a comprehensive final settlement.
Although Araghchi highlighted the economic benefits already achieved, the broader negotiations remain sensitive and politically fraught, especially as tensions continue over Lebanon, the Strait of Hormuz and the future shape of any long-term US-Iran arrangement.
Still, the latest statements from both Tehran and the mediators suggest that the talks have entered a more consequential phase, with economic relief now emerging as one of the clearest early outcomes of the diplomatic process.
