An Iranian lawmaker on Tuesday warned against any actions in the Strait of Hormuz without coordination with Tehran. The remarks followed reports of an attack on a tanker off Oman’s coast.
The comments came as regional tensions remained high after recent security incidents. Iranian officials also linked the issue to national security concerns.
Lawmaker Stresses Iran’s Role in Waterway
According to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi issued the warning during a media briefing. He serves on Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.
Boroujerdi said any action in the Strait of Hormuz without Iran’s coordination would fail. He maintained that Iran holds authority over decisions concerning the strategic waterway.
He also said the policy had been approved at the highest levels of the Iranian system. Furthermore, he linked the decision to the recent conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Parliament Expected to Review Proposed Law
Boroujerdi said parliament would soon approve legislation on managing the Strait of Hormuz. He added that relevant institutions would be required to implement the law.
He stressed that Iran would handle all matters concerning the waterway according to its national interests. He also said security considerations would remain central to future decisions.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes. Any disruption there could significantly affect global energy supplies and shipping.
