Washington and Tehran Signal Progress but No Final Agreement
The United States and Iran have downplayed chances of an immediate agreement to end the ongoing regional conflict.
US President Donald Trump said any deal with Tehran must be โgreat and meaningfulโ or there would be no agreement.
Iranian officials also confirmed that negotiations are still incomplete despite recent progress.
Iranโs Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said talks with Washington were moving forward.
However, he stressed that a final agreement has not yet been reached.
Nuclear Programme Remains Key Dispute in Negotiations
Iran said nuclear issues are not included in the initial framework of the proposed agreement.
Officials stated that discussions on uranium enrichment and nuclear facilities would take place separately.
Reports from American media claimed Iran could give up its stockpile of highly enriched uranium under a future agreement.
Iranian news agencies denied those reports and said Tehran made no commitments regarding its nuclear programme.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded the complete dismantling of Iranโs uranium enrichment facilities.
He said any final agreement must fully eliminate the nuclear threat.
Strait of Hormuz and Sanctions Relief Dominate Talks
The future status of the Strait of Hormuz remains a major issue in negotiations.
Iran currently controls traffic through the strategic oil shipping route amid the ongoing conflict.
President Trump stated that the waterway would reopen under a possible agreement.
Iranian media reports claimed Tehran would maintain management authority over the strait.
Iran is also demanding access to frozen financial assets held under US sanctions.
Officials said partial release of blocked funds is necessary before any agreement can move forward.
Reports also suggest the United States may temporarily ease sanctions on Iranโs oil and gas sectors during negotiations.
Lebanon Ceasefire Also Linked to Proposed Understanding
Iranian media reports stated the proposed agreement could include a ceasefire across multiple regional fronts, including Lebanon.
Israel has continued military strikes in Lebanon despite an earlier ceasefire arrangement.
Iran stressed that ending fighting across the region remains an urgent priority in ongoing negotiations.
