Iran has informed mediators that it will not participate in a second round of negotiations with the United States unless five trust-building conditions are fulfilled, according to a report published by Fars News Agency on Tuesday.
Citing an informed source, the report stated that Tehran considers the conditions to be minimum guarantees required before any new diplomatic engagement with Washington can begin. Iranian officials reportedly conveyed the demands through Pakistani mediators amid ongoing regional tensions and stalled peace efforts.
According to the report, Iranโs conditions include ending the war on all fronts, particularly in Lebanon, lifting US sanctions, releasing frozen Iranian assets and compensating Tehran for war-related damages. Iran also seeks formal recognition of its sovereignty rights over the Strait of Hormuz.
The source added that Tehranโs distrust toward Washington has deepened because of the continued US naval blockade in the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman. Iranian officials reportedly believe meaningful negotiations cannot resume until practical steps are taken to address these concerns and establish minimum confidence between both sides.
Iran presented the conditions in response to a reported 14-point proposal from the United States, which Tehran allegedly described as one-sided and designed to secure objectives Washington failed to achieve during the conflict.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump said he plans to discuss the Iran conflict extensively with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his upcoming visit to China. However, Trump stated that the United States does not require Beijingโs assistance in handling Iran.
The United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28, prompting retaliation and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Although a ceasefire brokered through Pakistani mediation has remained in place since April 8, negotiations in Islamabad have yet to secure a lasting agreement.
