A report published by British newspaper The Daily Telegraph has claimed that Iran secretly held funeral prayers for former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in Tehran under tight security arrangements.
According to the report, the ceremony took place on Thursday and was attended only by close family members and a limited number of senior government officials. The newspaper stated that authorities allegedly kept the event highly restricted to avoid public attention and maintain secrecy surrounding the matter.
However, Iranian authorities have not officially confirmed the report, and no independent source has yet verified the claims made by the newspaper. As a result, uncertainty continues to surround the reported death and funeral arrangements of the former Iranian leader.
The report further alleged that Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28 during initial attacks on Iran allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel. It also claimed that several members of his family died in the attacks alongside him.
In addition, the newspaper reported that a number of senior Iranian military commanders and advisers were also killed during the alleged strikes. Those named in the report include Major General Abdul Rahim Mousavi, Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, and Major General Mohammad Pakpour.
Meanwhile, the absence of any official statement from Tehran has fueled speculation on social media and among international observers regarding the authenticity of the claims. Analysts noted that the Iranian government has traditionally maintained strict control over information related to senior leadership and national security matters.
The report has attracted widespread attention internationally due to the significance of the claims involving Iranโs leadership and military command structure. Nevertheless, independent confirmation remains unavailable, and officials in Tehran have so far remained silent on the matter.
