Tehran Defends Position After Trump Criticism
Iran dismissed US President Donald Trump’s rejection of Tehran’s response to a proposed American peace plan, with semi-official media claiming the criticism carried no significance for Iranian negotiators.
An informed source told Tasnim News Agency that Iranian officials draft proposals solely around the rights and interests of the Iranian people rather than satisfying Washington.
“No one in Iran writes proposals to please Trump,” the source reportedly said, adding that if the US president disliked the proposal, “then it is naturally better.”
The remarks followed Trump’s statement on Truth Social, where he described Iran’s response from its “so-called representatives” as “totally unacceptable.”
Meanwhile, the latest exchange further highlighted the widening divide between Washington and Tehran over regional security, sanctions, and maritime control.
Iran Pushes Demands on Sanctions and Strait of Hormuz
Following the diplomatic exchange, Israeli media reported that Trump held a sensitive phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding escalating regional tensions and Iran’s nuclear programme.
According to Tasnim, Iran’s response stressed the need for an immediate end to the conflict and guarantees preventing future military aggression.
Additionally, Tehran demanded that the United States lift Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions linked to Iranian oil sales within 30 days. Iranian officials also called for the simultaneous release of frozen Iranian assets immediately after signing a preliminary agreement.
Furthermore, Iran insisted on maintaining authority over the strategic Strait of Hormuz and ending the naval blockade without delay.
While Washington continues pushing for its own settlement terms, Tehran’s response signaled that several American measures must occur quickly to preserve negotiations.
Consequently, the diplomatic standoff has intensified regional concerns over maritime security and economic restrictions.
