Iran has denied reports claiming that President Masoud Pezeshkian submitted a resignation letter, dismissing the claims as false and politically motivated. The clarification came on Sunday after media reports suggested that Pezeshkian had sent an official resignation letter to the Office of the Supreme Leader.
A source cited by Iran International claimed that the resignation letter had been delivered, but Iranian authorities immediately rejected the report. The Presidential Office responded through Deputy Head of Communications Mehdi Tabatabaei, who used the social media platform X to call the claims inaccurate and misleading.
Tabatabaei said the reports represented media manipulation by foreign outlets and insisted that Pezeshkian continues to serve the Iranian public. He stated that the government remains committed to its responsibilities and will not abandon its path of unity and stability.
He further said that those attempting to weaken national cohesion through misinformation will fail. His remarks aimed to counter speculation about internal political divisions within Iranโs leadership structure.
The denial comes at a time of heightened regional tensions in the Middle East following recent military escalations involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. The conflict intensified after strikes in late February, which triggered retaliatory actions from Tehran against Israeli targets and US-linked positions in the Gulf region.
Iran also temporarily disrupted maritime movement by closing the Strait of Hormuz during the escalation. A ceasefire took effect on April 8 after mediation efforts led by Pakistan, although follow-up diplomatic talks in Islamabad failed to secure a lasting agreement between the involved parties.
