IRGC Footage Fuels Conflicting Claims
Iranโs Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters has claimed that it shot down a US F-35 Lightning II over central Iran, releasing images and footage purportedly showing the wreckage. Iranian sources, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said the incident marks a significant development in the ongoing conflict.
Moreover, newly circulated footage appears to show debris scattered across a remote area, intensifying speculation about the aircraftโs identity. However, US officials have not confirmed the claim, and independent verification remains unavailable. Consequently, analysts urge caution, noting that wartime narratives often include conflicting information.
Markings Spark Identification Debate
Meanwhile, observers have pointed to distinctive markings on the wreckage, including a red stripe and a โU.S. Air Forces in Europeโ insignia. These features closely resemble those used on F-15E Strike Eagle jets assigned to the 48th Fighter Wing, also known as the Liberty Wing, based at RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom.
However, while the wing also operates F-35A aircraft, there are no widely known images showing those jets carrying similar red tail markings. As a result, questions have emerged about whether the wreckage truly belongs to an F-35 or another aircraft type.
Furthermore, defence analysts suggest the possibility of misidentification or deliberate messaging amid escalating tensions. The lack of corroborating evidence has added to uncertainty surrounding the claim.
As the conflict intensifies, both sides continue to release competing narratives. Therefore, experts stress the need for independent verification before drawing firm conclusions about the reported downing.
