Tehran claims attacks targeted oil tankers and civilians
Iran accused the United States of violating a ceasefire agreement after American forces allegedly targeted two Iranian oil tankers and launched aerial attacks on civilian areas in southern Iran on Thursday night. According to a statement issued by the spokesman for Iranโs Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, the incidents occurred near the Strait of Hormuz and along coastal regions bordering the Gulf.
The spokesman stated that one Iranian oil tanker was sailing from the Jask region toward the Strait of Hormuz when it came under attack. He added that another vessel entering the strategic waterway near the UAE port of Fujairah was also targeted during the operation.
Furthermore, Iranian officials claimed aerial strikes hit civilian areas in Bandar Khamir, Sirik, and Qeshm Island. Tehran alleged that some regional countries cooperated with the United States in carrying out the attacks, although officials did not identify specific nations involved.
Meanwhile, the accusations emerged amid rising tensions in the Gulf despite recent international efforts to maintain a fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.
Iran says military launched immediate retaliation
In response, the spokesman said Iranian Armed Forces launched retaliatory operations against US military vessels positioned east of the Strait of Hormuz and south of the port of Chabahar. Iranian authorities claimed the counterattacks caused significant damage to American naval assets operating in the area.
Additionally, Iranian military officials warned that the country would continue responding forcefully to any future attacks or military aggression. The spokesman emphasized that Iranโs Armed Forces would act without hesitation against what Tehran described as hostile actions by the United States and its allies.
At the same time, neither the Pentagon nor US Central Command immediately issued an official response regarding Iranโs latest allegations.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the worldโs most strategically important energy routes, carrying a substantial portion of global oil shipments through the Gulf region.
