ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Monday rejected petitions filed by Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi seeking suspension of their sentences in the £190 million corruption case. The court ruled that the applications had become infructuous as the main appeals were already scheduled for hearing on May 7.
Bench Fixes Main Appeals for Early Hearing
A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar stated that proceeding with the main appeals would serve justice more effectively. Earlier, during the April 30 hearing, the court had stressed the need for swift disposal of the case.
Imran Khan, imprisoned since August 2023, is currently serving a 14-year sentence at Adiala Jail in the Al-Qadir Trust case. Meanwhile, an accountability court sentenced him and Bushra Bibi to 14 and seven years, respectively, in January 2025. The case alleges that they received financial benefits and land from Bahria Town Ltd in exchange for facilitating the legalisation of funds returned by the United Kingdom during the PTI government.
Court Addresses Jail Access and Medical Requests
In a related development, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir heard a petition filed by Bushra Bibi’s daughter requesting access to her mother and permission for medical consultation. The court directed jail authorities to decide the application within two days and summoned the superintendent on May 6.
Additionally, the court reviewed a contempt petition regarding denial of meetings between Imran Khan and his legal counsel. The matter stems from a March 2025 ruling that restored his visitation rights twice a week.
Separately, the court issued notice to Gohar Ali Khan over a petition seeking closure of Imran’s account on the social media platform X. Further hearings were adjourned until next week.
