Senior Israeli Commander Escapes Unharmed After Drone Attack
The Israeli military has disclosed that a Hezbollah drone recently struck the personal command vehicle of Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo during a visit to frontline positions in southern Lebanon.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Milo escaped unharmed because he had exited the vehicle shortly before the attack to meet subordinate commanders in the area. Although the military revealed the incident on Thursday, officials indicated that it occurred within the past few weeks.
The attack did not affect the latest ceasefire arrangements between Israel and Hezbollah. However, the incident has drawn significant attention due to the seniority of the officer involved and the potential consequences had the strike resulted in casualties.
Military analysts noted that Milo is one of the highest-ranking operational commanders in the Israeli armed forces and is often regarded as a potential future candidate for the position of IDF chief of staff.
Security Measures Expected to Tighten Along Northern Front
The incident has renewed concerns over Hezbollah’s growing use of first-person-view (FPV) drones, which are manually piloted and operate independently of GPS signals. Israeli forces have faced challenges countering these systems despite ongoing efforts to improve detection and interception capabilities.
Furthermore, military officials are expected to review and strengthen security procedures for senior commanders and political leaders visiting operational areas near the Lebanese border. The strike highlighted the risks posed by increasingly sophisticated drone operations in frontline zones.
Had Milo been injured or killed, the attack would likely have represented a major symbolic and strategic achievement for Hezbollah. To date, the highest-ranking Israeli officers killed during the conflict have held the rank of colonel, while a brigadier general remains the most senior officer wounded.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military continues efforts to develop more effective countermeasures against advanced drone threats as tensions along the northern front persist despite ceasefire efforts.
