Hutchison Ports Pakistan plans to invest $76 million during 2026 and 2027. The investment will upgrade operations and increase cargo-handling capacity.
The terminal is Pakistanโs only deep-water container terminal. The company plans to introduce advanced equipment under its modernization program.
The investment includes two electric remote-controlled Quay Cranes. It also covers 17 electric remote-controlled Rubber Tyre Gantry Cranes.
Additionally, the company will add 70 electric trucks and 50 trailers. The terminal already received its first batch of equipment during 2026.
Terminal Expands Electric Equipment
The initial delivery included 20 electric trucks and 10 trailers. It also included a reach stacker and an empty handler.
With the latest investment, cumulative investment will exceed $690 million by the end of 2026. The modernization program aims to expand capacity and improve productivity.
Moreover, electrifying equipment will support Hutchison Ports Groupโs sustainability objectives. The move will reduce emissions and support Pakistanโs supply-chain decarbonization.
Company Eyes Stronger Maritime Role
Hutchison Ports Pakistan CEO CS Kim reaffirmed the companyโs commitment to Pakistanโs economic growth. He also highlighted efforts to strengthen the countryโs maritime sector.
The company is working with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Karachi Port Trust. It is also coordinating with the government to develop Pakistan as a transshipment hub.
Meanwhile, Hutchison Ports Pakistan submitted a proposal seeking additional land. The proposed Centralized Examination Area would improve cargo examination and clearance processes.
The facility would also support a high-capacity logistics hub. Consequently, the project could enhance trade efficiency and strengthen Pakistanโs maritime infrastructure.
