New non-folding smartphone introduces unusual 16:9.5 screen, slim design and HarmonyOS 7 as Huawei targets content-focused users
BEIJING: Huawei has unveiled the Pura X View in China, introducing what the company describes as the worldโs first โwide-screen candybarโ smartphone, designed to offer more horizontal viewing space without using a foldable display.
The Pura X View features a 6.39-inch OLED panel with an unusual 16:9.5 aspect ratio and 2232ร1320 resolution. Despite its relatively compact diagonal measurement, Huawei says the wider screen provides 114.27 square centimetres of display area.
Moreover, the panel delivers up to 6,500 nits of peak brightness, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 2,160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.
Slim Body Houses Large Battery
Huawei has reduced the bezels to 1.05mm on all four sides, producing a claimed 96.1% screen-to-body ratio. Meanwhile, the handset measures only 6.68mm thick and weighs 201 grams.
Despite its slim profile, Huawei has equipped the device with a sizeable 7,000mAh battery. However, the company has not yet disclosed charging specifications.
The smartphone comes in Leap Shadow Red, Linen Gray, Zero Degree White and Phantom Night Black.
HarmonyOS 7 Optimised for Wider Screen
The Pura X View will become Huaweiโs first smartphone to launch with HarmonyOS 7. The company has optimised the operating system for video viewing, reading, gaming and productivity on the wider display.
Furthermore, all configurations include 12GB RAM, while customers can choose between 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage.
Huawei has not officially identified the processor, although reports suggest a Kirin 9030S chipset. Likewise, leaks point to a 50-megapixel triple-camera system with a periscope telephoto lens, but Huawei has yet to confirm those specifications.
Reservations opened in China on August 20, while demonstrations and pre-sales will begin August 28. Huawei has not announced pricing or international availability.
