Saudi Arabia has introduced a new restriction for Hajj 2026, barring pilgrims under the age of 15 from entering the Kingdom. The decision has been confirmed by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and aviation authorities, marking a significant policy shift ahead of the pilgrimage season.
According to officials, the restriction will take effect from May 3, 2026. From this date onward, children under 15 years of age will not be allowed to travel on Hajj flights. Authorities have also cancelled all visas issued to underage pilgrims.
Clear Instructions Issued to Airlines
Airlines have received strict directions regarding the new rule. They have been told not to carry any pilgrim below the age limit on Hajj routes.
The directive applies to all international departures heading toward Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage purposes.
In an official statement, authorities clarified the timeline and enforcement details. โGovernment of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has restrained the entry of under 15 years pilgrims in Saudi Arabia and instructed that no flight departing from any country to Saudi Arabia shall be permitted to carry any pilgrim who will be under 15 years of age on 27th May 2026 (corresponding to 9th Zulhijjah 1447 โ Day of Arafat),โ the statement read.
Immediate Implementation Ordered
Officials have directed all relevant stakeholders to implement the restriction without delay. This includes Hajj directorates, private tour organisers, and airlines.
The Hajj Organisers Association of Pakistan has also been instructed to ensure full compliance.
Authorities emphasised that strict monitoring will be carried out to avoid any violations.
Full Refund Assurance for Affected Pilgrims
The Saudi government has assured that all affected pilgrims will receive full refunds. This applies to individuals who had already completed bookings under the Hajj scheme.
Officials confirmed that financial losses will be minimised through this measure.
Ongoing Hajj Flight Operations
Hajj flight operations from Pakistan began on April 18. The first group of 160 pilgrims departed from Karachi via a private airline.
The operation continues as scheduled for eligible pilgrims. However, the new age restriction now forms a key part of the travel criteria.
Pakistanโs Hajj Quota Details
Under the official Hajj scheme, approximately 119,000 pilgrims from Pakistan will travel this year. These pilgrims will visit Makkah and Madinah.
Out of this total, 67,230 male pilgrims will travel under the government scheme. Additionally, 51,846 female pilgrims are also part of the programme.
These figures highlight the scale of Pakistanโs participation in Hajj 2026.
A Policy Shift With Immediate Impact
The decision to bar underage pilgrims represents a notable change in Hajj regulations. While the reason behind the restriction has not been detailed, authorities are focused on smooth implementation.
For many families, the rule may affect travel plans. However, officials stress that compliance is essential for maintaining order during the pilgrimage.
Conclusion: New Rule Reshapes Hajj Travel Plans
The new age restriction is set to impact thousands of potential pilgrims. However, authorities have taken steps to manage the transition smoothly.
With refunds assured and clear instructions issued, the focus now remains on enforcement.
