ISLAMABAD: The federal government has planned the establishment of a Garment City at Port Qasim. The project would generate $2.5 billion investment and around 138,000 jobs.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry chaired a meeting on Monday to discuss establishing a Garments City at Port Mohammad Bin Qasim in Karachi. The proposed project will cover 400 acres and aims to strengthen Pakistanโs garment industry and boost exports.
During the first phase, authorities will allocate 250 acres for the Garments City. The project is expected to create 138,000 employment opportunities.
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the government would prioritize private investment to develop the project and expand industrial activity.
He added that the Garments City would produce garments meeting international standards and support exporters through a one-window operation.
Furthermore, the minister said the Port Qasim Authority would provide essential infrastructure and facilities for the project.
The government also plans to introduce environment-friendly technology at the facility to promote sustainable industrial development.
Meanwhile, officials reviewed the projectโs proposed framework and development requirements during the meeting.
The initiative is expected to attract investors, strengthen Pakistanโs textile and garment exports, and create substantial employment opportunities.
The mega project can also increase economic activity in the country and promote countryโs export-oriented industrial sector.
