Police have arrested the father, two brothers and a sister of an 18-year-old woman following her death in Lahore.
The incident occurred in the Sanda area, where police are investigating allegations of severe physical assault and sexual abuse. The victim was identified as Maham.
Maham was brought to Ganga Ram Hospital in critical condition on September 26. She later died from injuries sustained before her admission, according to police.
Police said the suspects allegedly left her body at the hospital before fleeing the scene. Investigators have since arrested four family members in connection with the case.
Four Family Members Arrested
Police registered a murder case on their own complaint following Maham’s death. The arrested suspects include her father, Muhammad Anwar, and brothers Hammad and Hamza.
Her sister Hina has also been arrested in connection with the case.
According to police, the initial investigation indicated that Maham had allegedly faced repeated physical violence. Investigators said pipes, iron rods and other objects were allegedly used during the assaults.
Police are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the injuries and the events that preceded Maham’s death.
Police Allege Severe Physical Assault
A spokesperson for the DIG Operations said investigators found injuries on the victim’s sensitive body parts.
According to the police, some of these injuries were allegedly caused by a hot iron and a knife. The authorities said the preliminary post-mortem examination also indicated sexual abuse.
Investigators are now examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged abuse and physical assault. The findings remain part of an ongoing investigation.
Police have alleged that Maham’s father, sister and two brothers were involved in the violence and sexual abuse.
Police Say Suspects Confessed During Questioning
Police said the four suspects reportedly confessed during questioning.
However, the alleged confessions have not been independently verified. The investigation therefore remains ongoing as authorities examine the available evidence.
Police said further legal action would follow based on the evidence collected during the investigation.
The authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Maham’s death and the allegations against the arrested family members.
Victim Was Raised by Paternal Aunt
Police said Maham was raised by her paternal aunt after her mother died a few months after her birth. The case remains under investigation as authorities examine the circumstances leading to the teenager’s death.
Police have said further legal action will be taken in light of the evidence collected during the probe.
