Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has confirmed Pakistanโs request for a $10 billion loan from the United States.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Aurangzeb said Pakistan submitted its application to the US Treasury Department.
He added that the US authorities are expected to decide on the request in September 2026.
Pakistan Reviews Financing Options
Aurangzeb said Pakistan could receive an extended grace period for bilateral loans. Meanwhile, officials are reviewing several financing options.
He explained that the government wants to secure favourable terms for the proposed financial arrangement. Therefore, discussions remain focused on improving the loan structure.
The finance minister said Pakistan continues to assess different possibilities. Officials are also examining the potential impact of various financing arrangements.
Talks Continue With US Financial Institutions
Meanwhile, Pakistan is holding discussions with the US Export-Import Bank. Talks also involve the CDF and other relevant departments.
According to Aurangzeb, these discussions remain part of Pakistanโs broader financing strategy. The government aims to strengthen its external financing position.
However, the United States has yet to make a final decision. Pakistan will await further developments before determining its next steps.
The proposed financing could support Pakistanโs economic and financial requirements. Authorities are therefore closely monitoring discussions with US officials and institutions.
