Diplomatic Engagement to Focus on Bilateral Cooperation
Kaja Kallas, the European Unionโs High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, is expected to visit Pakistan shortly after Eid al-Adha for a series of high-level meetings with the countryโs leadership, diplomatic sources said.
According to officials, Kallas is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on May 31 as part of an important diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening relations between Pakistan and the European Union.
During her visit, she is expected to hold bilateral discussions with Ishaq Dar. The talks are likely to cover a wide range of issues, including bilateral relations, regional developments, trade opportunities, economic cooperation, and matters of international concern.
Furthermore, diplomatic sources indicated that both sides will explore ways to deepen collaboration across multiple sectors and reinforce existing partnerships.
The visit reflects continued efforts by Islamabad and Brussels to maintain regular diplomatic dialogue and expand cooperation on shared priorities.
Regional and Global Issues Expected to Feature Prominently
Meanwhile, Kallas is also expected to meet other senior Pakistani officials during her stay, highlighting the growing importance of engagement between Pakistan and the European Union.
Analysts view the visit as particularly significant given the current international environment, which includes ongoing geopolitical tensions and economic challenges affecting several regions.
Additionally, discussions are expected to include perspectives on developments related to the conflict in Ukraine, broader Middle East tensions, global energy security, and economic stability.
Diplomatic observers believe the meetings will provide an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on regional security, international diplomacy, and emerging global challenges.
Furthermore, officials are expected to examine avenues for enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, development initiatives, and political engagement.
As Pakistan and the European Union continue to strengthen diplomatic ties, the visit is likely to serve as an important platform for advancing mutual interests and reinforcing long-term cooperation.
The engagement also underscores the EUโs interest in maintaining active dialogue with key regional partners amid a rapidly evolving international landscape.
