Kaja Kallas arrived in Pakistan on Monday to participate in the 8th Pakistan-EU Strategic Dialogue, reaffirming continued engagement between Pakistan and the European Union on key regional and global issues.
According to Pakistanโs Foreign Office, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will co-chair the dialogue with Kallas. The platform remains the highest-level mechanism for structured discussions between Pakistan and the EU and focuses on strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors.
High-Level Meetings to Focus on Bilateral Cooperation
During her visit, Kallas is scheduled to meet Asif Ali Zardari, Shehbaz Sharif, and Field Marshal Asim Munir. She is also expected to interact with representatives from think tanks and academic institutions as part of the EUโs broader outreach to policymakers, researchers, and civil society.
The European Union said the strategic dialogue offers both sides an opportunity to review bilateral relations under the Strategic Engagement Plan signed in June 2019. A joint press conference by Kallas and Ishaq Dar is also expected during the visit.
Trade Partnership Remains Central to Pakistan-EU Relations
Pakistanโs Foreign Office said the country deeply values its long-standing partnership with the EU, built on shared values, economic cooperation and commitment to multilateralism. The EU remains Pakistanโs second-largest trading partner, with GSP+ continuing to play a major role in boosting exports.
Since receiving GSP+ status in 2014, Pakistanโs exports to the EU have grown significantly, particularly in textiles, leather, sports goods and surgical products.
