Federal Minister for Energy Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari ordered strict action against poorly performing DISCO officials. The directive followed reports of corruption and weak service delivery across power distribution companies.
According to official details, authorities identified 100 SDOs and XENs with poor performance records. Investigations also linked several officials to corruption and administrative negligence. Consequently, the minister directed departments to initiate disciplinary proceedings immediately.
The minister instructed authorities to act against all officials involved in corrupt practices. Furthermore, he ordered action against SDOs, XENs, and chief executive officers responsible for misconduct. DISCO officials will now face accountability measures under relevant departmental procedures.
Power Division Finalizes Lists
A spokesperson for the Power Division confirmed that authorities finalized lists of corrupt officials. Departments have already forwarded those lists for further action. Meanwhile, power distribution companies continue reviewing the performance of field officers.
The spokesperson also revealed that PESCO and SEPCO suspended several officials. These employees reportedly failed to address public complaints within required timelines. Therefore, management took administrative action to improve service standards.
The minister expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of consumer complaints. He emphasized that public concerns require immediate attention and effective solutions. Additionally, he urged power companies to improve communication with consumers.
Quarterly Reports to Track Performance
Leghari highlighted the importance of Call Centre Form 118. He said the initiative strengthens coordination between electricity consumers and DISCOs. As a result, authorities can respond more effectively to complaints.
The minister also called for a comprehensive complaint resolution system. He stressed that consumers deserve timely responses and transparent procedures. Moreover, he announced that quarterly reports will evaluate SDO and XEN performance.
These reports will help monitor accountability and service delivery. Consequently, power distribution companies may face increased scrutiny in the coming months.
