MARDAN/ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have arrested a serving constable in connection with the murder of a Sikh couple in Baboo Mohalla, Mardan. Authorities solved the case within a day of the incident, highlighting rapid police action and coordinated investigation efforts.
Police said the suspect allegedly shot dead Jagannath, a gurdwara caretaker, and his wife Asawanti inside their home on Wednesday. The incident triggered a high-level investigation in the district.
Swift Investigation Leads to Arrest
Mardan District Police Officer Masood Ahmad Bangash confirmed the arrest during a press briefing. He said investigators used CCTV footage, mobile phone records, and other technical evidence to identify the suspect. Moreover, police teams acted quickly and detained the accused within 24 hours.
Officials believe the motive was a personal grievance. According to investigators, the suspect previously served at the same gurdwara as Jagannath. However, he was transferred about three years ago, which led to long-standing resentment. Authorities are now examining this background as part of the case.
Security Concerns and Ongoing Probe
The killings sparked concern within the Sikh community and raised questions about local security arrangements. Meanwhile, police officials assured that the investigation is progressing on solid legal grounds. They also confirmed that a complete charge sheet will be submitted in court to ensure proper prosecution.
Furthermore, authorities stated that additional evidence is being reviewed to strengthen the case. The swift arrest has been presented as an example of effective coordination between intelligence and field units. However, the investigation remains ongoing as officials work to establish the full sequence of events.
