Authorities Examine Routes and Passenger Capacity
Pakistan Railways is considering operating three special services during Eid ul Azha to accommodate the expected increase in passenger movement during the holiday period. Railway officials are currently reviewing a proposal aimed at easing travel pressure as demand for intercity transportation rises ahead of the festive season.
According to reports, authorities are evaluating a plan that would operate all proposed services exclusively in economy class. Officials believe the approach could help accommodate a larger number of regular travelers while improving passenger flow during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
If approved, the first service is expected to operate between Quetta and Karachi on May 23. Meanwhile, the second proposed route may run from Karachi to Rawalpindi on May 24, while the third service could travel between Karachi and Lahore on May 25.
Operational Challenges Influence Planning
Sources stated that the proposal remains under discussion at Railway Headquarters and that officials have not yet issued a final approval for the plan. Consequently, railway authorities continue to assess operational requirements before making a formal announcement.
Furthermore, the proposed arrangements indicate that Pakistan Railways is attempting to manage the expected Eid travel surge through a limited special operation this year. Officials reportedly designed the plan with a focus on handling larger passenger volumes through economy-class services.
Sources also revealed that operational limitations affected the number of proposed services. Reports indicated that the department is facing constraints because of the unavailability of a power plant, creating challenges for wider scheduling options.
Meanwhile, passengers are waiting for an official confirmation as authorities complete internal discussions. A final announcement is expected once Pakistan Railways completes its review process and grants formal approval to the proposed travel plan.
