RAWALPINDI โ A 32-year-old man attempted to set himself on fire while his wife suffered serious burn injuries during the incident in Rawalpindi on Monday, a private channel reported.
The incident occurred in the Officers Colony area, located on Misriyal Road in the garrison city. Authorities identified the man as Qasim. According to reports, Qasim attempted self-immolation, and his wife sustained severe injuries while the fire was being lit.
Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the emergency report. The rescue personnel provided initial medical assistance and shifted both individuals to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
This event follows a similar tragedy in the Dhamial area earlier in May 2026. In that previous case, a man attempted self-immolation after allegedly murdering a young woman and setting her body on fire. A foot constable on duty in Liaquat Colony received the emergency call about the house fire at approximately 9:45 AM and alerted authorities.
Police responders discovered the woman’s burnt body inside a room, noting visible cuts on her head and hands. Emergency teams found the critically injured suspect beside her body with burn injuries covering more than 90 percent of his body. Rescue officials transferred the suspect to Holy Family Hospital, while the police shifted the woman’s body to the District Headquarters Hospital for a postmortem examination. The local police registered a formal murder case based on the complaint of the responding constable.
