Islamabad is set to strengthen its emergency response system with 21 new rescue and firefighting vehicles arriving after 17 years.
The vehicles have reached Karachi Port from China and will be transported to Islamabad within five days. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi inspected the fleet during his visit to Karachi Port.
Naqvi welcomed the arrival and described the vehicles as a major expansion of Islamabad Rescue’s fleet since 2009. He also thanked the Chinese government for delivering the vehicles ahead of schedule.
New Rescue Fleet to Serve Islamabad
The new vehicles will operate around the clock from six rescue stations across Islamabad. Therefore, the fleet will remain available for emergency rescue and firefighting operations throughout the day.
Officials briefed Naqvi about the capabilities of the newly arrived vehicles during his inspection. According to the officials, the vehicles can support rescue and firefighting operations at heights reaching up to 256 feet.
The new fleet includes several types of specialised vehicles designed for emergency operations. It comprises four fire aerial trucks, six fire towers and five fire tanks.
In addition, the vehicles come equipped with modern rescue and firefighting equipment. The new equipment is expected to expand the operational resources available to Islamabad’s emergency services.
Vehicles Arrive From China
The arrival of the vehicles at Karachi Port marks the next stage of their deployment to Islamabad. They will be transported from Karachi to the federal capital within five days.
Naqvi inspected the vehicles at the port and welcomed their arrival. He also acknowledged the Chinese government for ensuring their early delivery.
The addition of the fleet represents the first major expansion of Islamabad Rescue’s vehicle resources since 2009, according to the minister.
Officials Inspect New Emergency Fleet
Senior customs officials, CDA Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner were present during the inspection at Karachi Port.
A CDA director and representatives of the National Logistics Cell (NLC) also attended the inspection.
The 21 vehicles will subsequently move to Islamabad, where they will be stationed at six rescue locations. They will provide round-the-clock availability for rescue and firefighting operations.
With the arrival of the new fleet, Islamabad Rescue will gain additional specialised vehicles for emergency operations, including firefighting work at significant heights.
