Swedish pop singer Zara Larsson has teamed up with California-based organic grocery chain Erewhon to support Malala Yousafzai’s mission to expand girls’ access to education.
The collaboration introduces a special smoothie called Midnight Sun, inspired by Larsson’s latest album of the same name. Proceeds from its sales will go to the Malala Fund, which works to ensure girls worldwide can access 12 years of education.
What’s Inside Zara Larsson’s Midnight Sun Smoothie?
The pink-and-purple drink combines several organic ingredients, including coconut milk, blueberries, bananas, whey protein, strawberries, pineapple, mango, coconut water, carrot juice and vanilla. Customers can find the smoothie at most Erewhon locations and through the chain’s mobile app. In New York, customers can also order it through Uber Eats and Postmates.
Beyond its colourful appearance and fruit-based ingredients, the drink connects Larsson’s music with a wider charitable cause. The partnership aims to raise funds for girls who face barriers to education.
How the Malala Fund Supports Girls’ Education
Malala Yousafzai co-founded the Malala Fund with her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai. The organisation advocates for every girl’s right to complete 12 years of quality schooling.
In Pakistan, the fund has provided Rs95 million in grants to organisations supporting girls’ education in Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan. It has also worked with local partners to provide free transport for students across 10 districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The organisation has extended its support internationally as well. In January, it pledged $300,000 for girls’ education and emergency relief in Gaza, Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Previously, it committed $100,000 to support Palestinian refugees in Egypt. Yousafzai has also pledged $3 million towards restoring girls’ education in Afghanistan, where authorities have barred girls from secondary and higher education.
A Celebrity Collaboration With a Purpose
Larsson’s smoothie launch highlights how entertainment and consumer brands can help draw attention to social causes. By directing sales proceeds towards the Malala Fund, the partnership connects an everyday purchase with efforts to improve educational opportunities. The initiative also brings renewed visibility to the global challenge of ensuring every girl can attend school and complete her education.
