Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced the distribution of 100,000 laptops and an additional 50,000 Honhaar Scholarships for students across the province.
She made the announcement while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Nawaz Sharif School of Eminence in Arifwala.
The chief minister said the provincial government remains committed to ensuring that every deserving student receives access to quality education.
She emphasized that no talented child should miss educational opportunities because of financial hardship.
Government Focuses on Modernizing Public Schools
Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government is transforming public schools into modern educational institutions.
Moreover, she revealed that Rs40 billion has been allocated to provide essential facilities in government schools.
According to the chief minister, the government is also establishing computer, information technology (IT), science, artificial intelligence (AI), and STEM laboratories.
These facilities aim to improve learning standards and prepare students for future technological challenges.
Furthermore, she said the government’s objective is to provide equal educational opportunities to children from both underprivileged and affluent families.
More Support Planned for Students
Besides expanding scholarships and laptop distribution, the chief minister announced another major initiative for students.
She said the Punjab government plans to provide 100,000 electric bikes to facilitate student transportation.
In addition, the government will continue expanding the Green Electric Bus service across the province.
Maryam Nawaz also highlighted plans to create employment opportunities and increase overseas job prospects for skilled young people.
She said these initiatives are designed to support students beyond their academic journey and improve their future career opportunities.
Public Safety Remains a Priority During Monsoon
During her address, the chief minister urged parents to keep children away from unsafe locations during the ongoing monsoon season.
She also appealed to the public to help ensure that open manholes remain properly secured to prevent accidents.
Furthermore, Maryam Nawaz stressed that no roof in Punjab should collapse because of storms or heavy rainfall.
She said the provincial government is taking measures to strengthen public safety during the monsoon season.
Electric Bus Service Expands to More Districts
On the occasion, the chief minister virtually inaugurated electric bus services in five districts.
The new services have been launched in Layyah, Okara, Sialkot, Chiniot, and Murree.
Maryam Nawaz also announced that the Punjab government has set a target of operating 5,000 electric buses across the province over the next five years.
She said expanding environmentally friendly public transport remains an important part of the government’s long-term development strategy.
The latest announcements reflect the Punjab government’s focus on improving education, expanding student welfare, strengthening public transport, and creating better opportunities for young people across the province.
