The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has requested immediate assistance from the federal government to strengthen security as protests continue in several districts. The request comes amid growing concerns over the law and order situation following recent unrest.
According to official sources, the AJK government has asked the Ministry of Interior to deploy 4,000 personnel from the Federal Constabulary (FC) along with seven wings of the Pakistan Rangers.
The move aims to reinforce security arrangements and restore normalcy in areas affected by the ongoing demonstrations.
Government Cites Security Concerns
In its letter to the federal government, the AJK administration described the activities of the banned JKJAAC as a serious challenge to public order.
According to the document, recent clashes resulted in the martyrdom of four security personnel, while another 174 personnel sustained injuries during the unrest.
The government also stated that sit-ins continue in Poonch and Rawalakot. Meanwhile, protests in several other districts have further increased tensions across the region.
Officials maintained that the deteriorating situation requires additional security resources to maintain peace and protect public safety.
Authorities Report Attacks During Protests
The letter further alleged that armed elements targeted law enforcement personnel as well as civilians during recent incidents.
Authorities also claimed that trucks carrying food supplies were set on fire, creating additional concerns about public safety and essential services.
In light of these developments, the AJK government urged federal authorities to provide immediate security assistance to help restore law and order and reinforce the writ of the state.
Request Includes Riot Control Equipment
According to official sources, the AJK government requested that half of the additional personnel arrive fully equipped with weapons and ammunition.
At the same time, it asked that the remaining personnel be provided with anti-riot equipment to manage protest situations more effectively.
Officials believe this combination would allow security forces to respond to different challenges while maintaining public order.
Federal Government Sends Additional Forces
Following the request, sources said the federal government has dispatched additional contingents of the Federal Constabulary and Pakistan Rangers from Islamabad to Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The newly deployed personnel are expected to arrive in phases before being stationed in sensitive districts according to security requirements.
Authorities will assess the evolving situation before deciding the scale and location of further deployments.
Security Measures Strengthened Across the Region
Meanwhile, security agencies have placed forces on high alert across Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said security arrangements have been tightened to prevent any further deterioration in the law and order situation.
The additional deployments are intended to support local authorities as they work to maintain peace while responding to ongoing protests in different parts of the region.
