Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has handed over 10 newly acquired armoured personnel carriers (APCs) to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police. The move aims to strengthen the provincial force’s capacity to conduct counterterrorism operations amid rising terrorist incidents.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the immediate transfer of the vehicles to the provincial police. The APCs previously belonged to Islamabad Police and will now support security operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Naqvi said the federal government had decided to increase its assistance to the province as security concerns continue. He also stressed that tackling terrorism requires cooperation between the federal and provincial authorities.
“The war against terrorism is a collective responsibility,” he said.
Why Were the APCs Transferred to KP Police?
The transfer comes amid a challenging security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where authorities face increasing pressure to counter terrorist incidents. The additional armoured vehicles are intended to strengthen police operations and improve their ability to respond to security threats.
According to Naqvi, the prime minister ordered the immediate transfer because of the prevailing security situation and rising terrorist incidents. Consequently, the federal government moved to provide equipment already available through Islamabad Police.
The vehicles will support the provincial police in their ongoing counterterrorism efforts. However, the announcement did not specify when or where the APCs would be deployed.
What Did Mohsin Naqvi Say About Federal Support?
Naqvi announced the transfer in a statement on October 12, 2026, highlighting the federal government’s commitment to supporting KP Police.
He said, “On the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, today I handed over 10 newly acquired Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) of Islamabad Police to KP Police to strengthen their ongoing counterterrorism operations. In view of the prevailing security situation and rising terrorist incidents in KP, the Prime Minister directed their immediate transfer. The fight against terrorism is our collective responsibility. The Federal Government stands firmly with KP Police and will extend every possible support to defeat terrorism and protect our people.”
The interior minister reiterated that the federal government would continue providing assistance to the provincial force. He said the government intended to support efforts to eliminate terrorism and protect citizens.
How Could the APCs Support Counterterrorism Operations?
Armoured personnel carriers provide protection for personnel during security operations, particularly in areas where armed threats pose risks. Their transfer is intended to improve the operational capacity of KP Police as it confronts ongoing security challenges.
Moreover, the federal government’s decision reflects an effort to provide immediate logistical support rather than wait for a separate procurement process. The announcement, however, did not provide details about the vehicles’ technical specifications or their planned deployment.
Naqvi maintained that the federal government would continue backing KP Police in its fight against terrorism. The transfer of the 10 APCs represents a further step in that support as authorities work to protect lives and maintain public security across the province.
