A Dubai-bound husband and wife were detained at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport after customs officials allegedly found charas hidden inside wooden jewellery boxes.
Pakistan Customs intercepted the couple during routine screening at the international departures area. The pair was preparing to travel to Dubai when officials reportedly became suspicious and carried out a detailed inspection.
The customs authorities recovered nearly 580 grams of charas from two specially designed wooden jewellery boxes. The seized narcotics were valued at around Rs. 2 million.
Charas Found in Concealed Compartments
The couple was scheduled to travel to Dubai on FlyDubai flight FZ330 when customs officials stopped them for further checking.
During the inspection, officials discovered two wooden jewellery boxes containing concealed compartments. Each box reportedly contained around 290 grams of charas.
Together, the two boxes contained nearly 580 grams of the narcotic substance.
The concealed compartments allegedly allowed the narcotics to remain hidden inside the jewellery boxes. However, customs officials detected the suspicious items during the airport screening process.
Customs Registers Case Against Couple
Following the recovery, customs officials seized the narcotics and took legal action against both suspects.
Authorities registered a case against the husband and wife under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 1997.
The case concerns the alleged attempt to transport the recovered charas from Karachi to Dubai. Both suspects have been included in the proceedings following the seizure.
Investigation Underway
The authorities have launched a further investigation into the case. Officials will examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempt and the recovered narcotics.
The recovery took place during routine screening at the airport’s international departures area. Consequently, the customs authorities prevented the suspected shipment from leaving the country.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue examining the case against the two suspects.
