The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has foiled an alleged drug smuggling attempt in Sukkur.
The operation took place on Shikarpur Road during an intelligence-based operation. According to an ANF spokesperson, officials recovered 49.4 kilograms of drugs.
The drugs were allegedly concealed inside secret compartments of an ambulance. Authorities also arrested Liaquat Ali, a Shikarpur resident.
The suspect was identified as an alleged key operative of an inter-provincial drug smuggling gang.
Drugs allegedly smuggled from Balochistan
The recovered consignment included 36 kilograms of hashish and 13.4 kilograms of ice.
According to initial information, smugglers were allegedly transporting the drugs from Balochistan to Sindh.
The operation followed intelligence reports about an attempt to move a large drug consignment between the two provinces.
According to the reports, the smugglers allegedly planned to use an ambulance to conceal the shipment.
However, ANF officials maintained surveillance and developed an operational strategy to intercept the suspected smuggling attempt.
The operation subsequently resulted in the recovery of the drugs and the arrest of the alleged operative.
Case registered against arrested suspect
Authorities have registered a case against the arrested suspect under the Narcotics Control Act.
The investigation will examine the alleged smuggling network and the circumstances surrounding the recovered drugs.
Meanwhile, the ANF has continued its efforts against drug trafficking through intelligence-based operations.
The seizure also highlights concerns surrounding the alleged misuse of emergency vehicles for criminal activities.
