Sialkot International Airport has clarified reports that a Qatar Airways flight from Doha landed in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Airport spokesperson Umair Khan said the aircraft actually landed at Sialkot International Airport on the morning of September 27. It later departed for Doha according to its scheduled departure time.
FlightRadar24 Data Caused Confusion
Khan explained that the aircraft appeared at an incorrect location on FlightRadar24 because of a technical issue and inaccurate GPS information.
According to the spokesperson, the tracking error created confusion about the flight’s actual location. He added that Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) radar records could independently verify the aircraft’s landing at Sialkot.
The clarification came after reports circulated online claiming that the Qatar Airways aircraft had made an emergency landing in IIOJK. Sialkot Airport rejected those reports and said the flight operated according to its scheduled plan.
Pakistan’s Airspace Restrictions
The incident comes amid continued airspace restrictions between Pakistan and India.
Pakistan currently bars Indian-registered aircraft, as well as aircraft operated or leased by Indian airlines and operators, from using its airspace. The restriction also covers military flights.
The Pakistan Airports Authority most recently extended the restriction until October 24, 2026.
Pakistan and India introduced reciprocal airspace restrictions in 2025 after tensions escalated following the Pahalgam attack. Both sides have since maintained restrictions through repeated extensions.
For now, Sialkot Airport has urged reliance on official aviation records when verifying flight movements. The airport maintains that the Qatar Airways aircraft landed in Sialkot and returned to Doha as scheduled.
