The situation escalated when U.S. navy ships reported that they had seized and disabled an Iranian cargo ship in the Arabian Sea. This action by the U.S. military was revealed by U.S. Central Command as there is increasing conflict between the two countries.
US Details Operation and Justifies Action
Based on statements from US Central Command, US forces have applied naval blockade techniques to an identified ship called the M/V Touska. The USS Spruance guided-missile destroyer stopped the ship while it was sailing into the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas. According to officials, the ship received warnings for six hours but did not respond.
Following the above, US military forces continued with their actions. They told the ship’s personnel to vacate the engine room before firing shots that rendered its propulsion unit inoperable. Subsequently, US Marines stormed the vessel, and it is now in US custody. Authorities have said that everything happened in line with standard practice.
In addition to the above, US President Donald Trump has spoken about the issue. He noted that US forces reacted firmly when the ship tried to bypass the blockade. President Trump added that the ship had already come under US sanctions for engaging in some illicit activities. It has emerged that many other ships were denied access after the blockade began.
Iran Pushes Back With Contradicting Claims
In contrast, the Iran side came up with an entirely different story of what happened. Iranian news outlets claimed that after this attack, the Iranian forces had targeted American ships and made them flee. This is in clear contradiction to what Americans have said about the incident.
In addition, this has created fear amongst experts regarding future outcomes. Analysts have warned that it might easily turn into a full-fledged confrontation if there isnโt any de-escalation. However, for now, neither side seems willing to back down.
