Washington Dismisses Tehran’s Reply
US President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s response to Washington’s latest proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict between the two sides.
“I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
His remarks came only hours after Iranian state media reported that Tehran had delivered its official response through Pakistani mediators. According to the IRNA news agency, Iranian officials sent the message as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure a broader settlement.
Meanwhile, Iranian state broadcaster IRIB stated that Tehran’s response focused on ending what it described as the war imposed by the United States and Israel across multiple fronts, particularly in Lebanon, while also demanding guarantees for maritime security.
Regional Tensions Continue Despite Ceasefire
Although Israel and Lebanon agreed to a ceasefire on April 17, later extended until mid-May, violence has continued along the border. Israeli forces still conduct near-daily strikes inside Lebanon, while clashes with Hezbollah persist despite diplomatic efforts.
At the same time, regional tensions have intensified since US and Israeli strikes targeted Iran on February 28. In response, Tehran launched retaliatory actions against Israel and several US allies in the Gulf region. Iran also moved to close the strategic Strait of Hormuz, escalating fears of wider instability.
Pakistan later brokered a ceasefire that took effect on April 8. However, negotiations held in Islamabad failed to secure a permanent agreement.
Subsequently, Trump extended the truce without setting a deadline, allowing diplomatic discussions to continue in search of a lasting resolution.
